When was the last time you transitioned from one stage of life to another? A job, a relationship, a city, graduation. These are all pivotal moments that we seem to try and transition out of as quickly as possible. Today we’re talking about transitions and how to make the most out of them.

The beauty of a bumpy transition
I transitioned jobs recently, so I’ve naturally been thinking about life transitions.
These days everything rolls into another. We’re conditioned to optimize transitions in our lives. Why is that? Are smooth transitions the best? What are we protecting against? Are we afraid to stop and look around?

There is real beauty in a bumpy transition. An awkward one - where an imperfect transition has beautiful side effects.
There aren’t any chances for pauses, for still-ness, for real-ness. Everything is just transitioned. Currently, I recently spent a month transitioning into the role of VP growth.
Here’s three learnings from currently being in the transition
The game always changes. I’ve been away from a medium sized business for a while, and although I thought I knew a lot, there was a lot that’s changed- the industry has changed, its organizations have gotten faster, more sophisticated
Polaris Perspective: recognize what has changed and what you need to change about your style/skill set to adapt. For me I had to adapt to managing a team remote, something I’ve never truly done at scale
You are so eager to want to recognize the desired state that you forget you have to do the work in the transition to actually achieve the transformation. Right now, I’ve been trying to run a sub 1:40 half marathon, which would be a pr. Thinking about this makes me happy vs running in the cold makes me sad.
Polaris Perspective: The transition is where the hard work actually is, the place of discomfort. The area where you genuinely question all of your decisions but if you lean into it anyways and get one step closer to your desired state.
The people you meet in the transition phase aren’t always forever. You’re there to serve them and vice versa in that specific time of life. That’s the hardest part of transition is moving forward from those people that you care deeply about.
Polaris Perspective: Who is the last coach you had, or someone who helped you reach the desired state at that given time on. Is that person still there? Realize those people won’t be there forever and you don’t have to invest your everything into making these people lifelong friends, mentors, etc.
People come into your life for a season, a reason, or a lifetime

📆 EVENTS

I spoke at CannaDataCon! Brought to you by Delta Emerald Ventures, CannaDataCon was a summit of 300 leaders in cannabis, alcohol science, technology, and regulation. Over the two days, we learned how cannabinoids are scaling as they go mainstream.
Three observations:
1. Hemp beverages are taking over traditional distribution channels quickly and winning consumer mindshare
2. Leaders must find a balance between optimization & growth and 2025 will be the year executives separate themselves from the pack
3. Cannabis and Hemp will have to figure out a way to work together vs working against each other
Really feel like we are just getting started. Insane amount of talent in this space.
