Improving (Other) Relationships

Last week, global stock markets lost 6$ trillion dollars.
6 TRILLION dollars wiped out at the stroke of everyone's favourite new game: Tariff Stacking
And simultaneously, amongst all of the strife and confusion, we witnessed Absolute Greatness over the weekend with Alex Ovechkin passing Wayne Gretzky for most all time goals in the NHL.
Both times, as I was consuming the information, I was consuming a beverage.
Tea for tariffs
Gatorade for greatness.
The juxtaposition of events made me reflect on relationships as a whole, not only the ones we build and maintain with other humans.
Today we'll be touching on, and asking questions on:
Your relationship to money.
Your relationship to longevity
Your relationship to beverages
Relationship to anything are a very personal and unique internal and external experience. Money, longevity, & beverages are no different.

Your Relationship with Money
Isn't it mind boggling that we grow up learning about algebra, science, and history but we never ever truly learn about money?
Looking at the current state of the world, your relationship to money probably matters more now than it ever has. We've seen that at a moments notice, something that used to cost $5, now costs $11.
We've seen housing pricing dramatically increase. Every other credit card charge is some sort of subscription.
Money changes value between countries.
You can borrow it
You can lend it
You can save it and you can spend it
The number of use cases for your relationship to money are infinite, leading you to constantly have to identify tradeoffs and analyze "value" .

Q's to ask yourself:
What is my relationship to money?
How would my money "describe me"?
How do I show up for my money?
How do I decide to spend or save money? Why?
As you seek to secure your future, your family's future, and your company's future, your relationship to money becomes increasingly important, especially in moments of scarcity.

Your Relationship to Longevity
The topic of longevity is one I have been enamoured with for the last year, and a topic we discuss greatly in this newsletter.
Over the weekend, a great example of Longevity was on display as Alexander Ovechkin, Captain of the Washington Capitals in the NHL, beat Wayne Gretzky's historic goal scoring record.
What's remarkable is that earlier in the year he broke his leg, and was out for 16 games (roughly 1 month and 10 days), and has consistently been one of the top players in the league in games played for the last 21 seasons. That is the definition of durability.

What many fail to realize is the amount of workouts, the detailed nutrition plans, the commitment to stretching, mobility, sleep and recovery that had to compound over the last 21 years for him to achieve such a feat.
Similar to money, longevity can disappear in an instant, however, similar to money, longevity can significantly improve based on short term decisions because of this magic word/action: compounding.
In the case of Alexander Ovechkin, his ultimate goal was to play long enough to be the number 1 goal scorer in history. In your case, you might be chasing a different definition of longevity, yet, either way, you must evaluate your relationship to longevity today if you are to achieve your goals and spend more time in a healthy, mobile state.
Q's to ask yourself:
What is my relationship to longevity today? What do I want it to be 20 years from now?
How am I compounding healthy habits today?
How do I rank, prioritize and balance fitness, diet, sleep, recovery & creative and critical thinking?
Your Relationship to Beverages
Water, coffee, tea, alcohol, matcha, juice, cannabis & hemp beverages, non-alcoholic wines, energy drinks... the list goes on.
Whether we realize it or not, beverages show up everywhere in our lives and typically are part of a habit.
Your morning coffee, the evening social setting, dinner with your family-a beverage is in your hands, or its somewhere near you.

Coffee shops by the dozen dot most neighbourhoods, with many having cult followings.
Just the other day I actually went to a morning coffee party that featured meditation/breath work into a DJ driven rave. All between 8 and 930 am!
Recently, there has been a massive shift in beverage consumption across North America.
Studies are showing alcohol consumption is decreasing with healthier alternatives including non-alcoholic and hemp beverages starting to take a serious hold.
Across Texas & Florida, you'll find an array of hemp beverages that can be bought at major retailers including Circle K & Total Wine & Liquor.
I never truly understood nor took the time to understand my relationship to beverages. Am I drinking coffee in the morning because of the caffeine or because it is now a habit to get into my day?
Q's to ask yourself:
Will cannabis beverages truly replace or displace my love of wine & mezcal? Or can I stick solely to my four gallon jug of water for the rest of my days?
Why do I drink what I drink? Does it provide me with the same onset/offset each time? Is it part of habit & specific utility or is it out of enjoyment?
For those looking for healthier alternatives, I'd consider my friend Niki Sawni's award winning non-alcoholic bev company Gruvi.
Or, for those looking at thc & functional mushrooms, take a look at a wonderful brand, Brez: https://www.drinkbrez.com/
So what who cares? (Polaris Perspective)
Today's Perspective was meant to simply shed light on relationships that we potentially may not consciously think about.
You might ask yourself the same tough questions on your relationships to beverages, longevity and money as you ask your significant others, partners, and customers.
